ACTOR-SINGERS FOR THE WORLD PREMIERE STAGED READING OF ZOOM, THE NEW MUSICAL TO BE PERFORMED IN OCEANSIDE, CA, SEPTEMBER 12, 2025. The staged reading will introduce Zoom to friends, family, the profession and producers and is, at this time, an unpaid project. 9 Rehearsals. Scripts, sheet music, recordings provided]

Seeking Actor-Singers who can sing rock, pop, jazz and r&b. Five leads and three supporting roles with songs plus one non-singing role. SINGING RANGE: All the female singers are approximately in the mezzo soprano range. Shira could be an alto. Nancy, Shira, Harriet, and Christa require about an octave and a half. Ellen and Harriet's Mom require more modest ranges of a little over an octave.  Johnny is a baritone. There's flexibility as songs can be transposed. Especially seeking actors for HARRIET, HARRIET"S MOM, JOHNNY and HILDY

THE CHARACTERS OF ZOOM

(In these descriptions, race is included because one dynamic of the play is the persistence of bias and separation in American life)

NANCY: A well-to-do married white 70-year-old woman living in Georgia, involved with charities and religion.

JOHNNY: NANCY’s husband, white, 75 years old. Long retired, he struggles with depression.

HARRIET: A 70-year-old single Black woman living in Hawaii, she has recently retired as an influential civil rights lawyer.

SHIRA: A 70-year-old married Jewish woman living on a farm in Wisconsin, struggling with questions about her farm and her marriage.

ELLEN: A 70-year-old single white woman living in Hawaii. Recently retired as a school secretary, energetic and witty, she has a feeling love is in her future.

CHRISTA: A 70-year-old white woman living in Massachusetts. A widow, dreamy and imaginative but persistent to the point of irritating the others.

HILDY (dramatic role, no-singing): NANCY and JOHNNY’s daughter, white, thirty-five. Intelligent, shabby, sad and angry, she lives on downtown streets near her parents.

MOM: HARRIET’s mother, Black, 90 years old. A widow for years, she is a big influence on HARRIET, calls her daughter out for her weaknesses but is a chief supporter and confidante.

They were best friends in 1968 and now they are isolated, it’s been 50 years and Covid just hit. But on Zoom they are not alone. So much to cover, problems to solve, love to rediscover.

Project: P.O.V.

P.O.V. – A long weekend of watching an odd man, SUBJECT, in a small bungalow home reveals he has incapacitated the actual person who lives there, and SUBJECT is using it as a spider web to select and kill from among the people who have the misfortune to visit. The tone of this film will be similar to Paranormal Activity or Blair Witch Project but instead of the supernatural, the threat comes from an actual serial killer.

The filming of P.O.V. will take place in Pasadena, CA on 6-8 days in the range of September/October this fall. While casting is open to everyone, being in the Los Angeles area or being able to be here on a specific day for all supporting roles is a must. Travel accommodations for supporting roles can’t be made, however, in the case of the main character SUBJECT, certain accommodations would be considered. The fact is, this film will very much hinge on one very talented and dedicated actor to be a key collaborator on the project and inhabit that role for the entire shoot. Accommodations for that actor are possible.
